James L. Gaither “Jim”
Jim’s aviation and flying interests “took off” at an early age. He recalls begging his father to go flying at the young age of six. His quest for flight today transcended from those early years of flying with his father in his Piper-Cherokee/180.
Jim’s pilot pursuits started in the late 1970’s flying hanggliders, being introduced and instructed by hanggliding friends. He embraced those early years of the sport.
While Montana was his primary playground, flying trips and adventures brought travel throughout the mainland United States, Hawaii and Canada
Jim is an accomplished hangglider pilot with over 31 years of experience and over 1,200 logged hours. He is a member of the USHPA (United States Hanggliding Paragliding Association) Ratings: Hang-4 and Tandem Instructor.
While active in all pursuits of flight, Jim’s principal focus is on ultralight flying. He feels that this simple form of flight is the most rewarding. His latest “air fix” has been from microlight or trike flying.
Having lived on Kauai since August 2007, he has already surpassed over 2,000 logged hours of flying here on the island. He is a member of USUA (United States Ultra Light Association) Ratings: Pilot and BFI (Basic Flight Instructor), with over 31 years flying experience.

RATINGS: Pilot: Sport Pilot Certificate and CFI (Certified Flight Instructor).
Mechanic: Light Sport/Repairman-Maintenance certificates: for both Airplanes & Weight Shift Control.
Having trained and flown thousands of students in both tandem hang gliding and trike flying, his passion is quite evident. His willingness to “share the air” and provide every interested neophyte a rewarding introduction into the sport of microlight flight is his primary focus in flying today.
